I bought this toy for my son and myself, and I need to say I have been nicely pleased with its construction, durability and functionality. The toy has taken a quantity of tough crashes into buildings, concrete, and trees -- so its tuff, damn tuff, but how well does it fly? Firstly, its significantly more a highly effective bird as compared to any of the smaller battery powered helicopters I have previously purchased or observed. It flies high, 100 feet and it desires a lot of space to genuinely enjoy flying it. You can fly it in the backyard, but I find I devote a lot more time worrying about crashing it into the residence than genuinely getting fun.
The gyro's keep the copter level and provide pinpoint turning -- Meaning that It spins around when hovering in mid-air. The flight challenge is to maintain the copter's hight steady, while moving the copter forward. Once more, turning is not an concern, its balancing the hight and forward path that is complicated. One reviewer mentioned that it will not fly forward or backward even so this is not the case. After a couple of days of practice both my 9 year old and I could pilot the copter reasonably well. I got about 15 minutes of flying time for every hour of charging. With the high studying curve this can make for some frustration. Is it worth shopping for? Yeah, its fun, and my son and I got a huge kick out of it -- primarily at night as it lights up! But, personally I wondered if it may possibly not be worth it to invest a tiny much more money and obtain a bigger copter that is easer to fly.
Bottom Line: This copter is fun, sturdy, will and could possibly properly satisfy your requirements -- if you put some time in understanding to fly it.

1st R/C helicopter I've ever owned -- not new to the R/C scene, although (and I have a wonderful understanding of how genuine helicopters fly and operate). It took me a tiny acquiring put to use to (hence the "tough for newbies" comment), but straightforward to master (therefore the "very easy for intermediates" comment).
A lot of the other critiques have covered most of the problems -- right here are my extra thoughts:
- Flies fairly well suitable out of the box -- consistently needs to be trimmed on the rotational axis and, as someone else noted, sustaining height/hover manage is a bit difficult.
- The Rapid/Slow toggle switch is very good for controlling your speed indoors (use the Slow setting). I've but to fly this outdoors (darned winter...mid-December 2010 as I write this), so haven't actually tried the Fast setting. It does seem to fly noticeably quicker in the Speedy setting.
- Only real unfavorable that I've encountered so far (prevented this from obtaining a full 5-star rating in my book) is that the top quality manage is a touch lacking -- one of the wires soldered onto the On/Off switch came loose on the 2nd flight, requiring me to have to re-solder the wire (and asking for my wife's aid, as it was honestly a 3-hand operation).
And it looks like I got a deal, the price seems to have gone up by about $20 considering that I bought it!
